Functional Arterial Anatomy of the Cranial Base

چکیده

Two main vascular routes supply the brain, internal carotid arteries (ICAs) and vertebral arteries. The external artery (ECA) mainly supplies skin, muscle, skull; thus, neurointerventionalists should be aware of ECA‐ICA, ECA‐vertebral artery, extracranial–intracranial anastomoses. These anastomoses are not newly formed but that remnants developmental processes. During development, ICA has with original ECA at first second pharyngeal arches, carotid‐basilar exist between artery/basilar artery. Advances in neurointerventional technology increasingly expanding indications for transarterial embolization territory. To avoid embolic complications to brain cranial nerve palsy, knowledge understanding such anastomosis crucial interested neurovascular diseases. arterial contributions these branches maxillary ascending (extracranial), ophthalmic (intracranial). Knowledge embryological processes is essential patterns This review discusses segmental concept functional anatomy extracranial‐intracranial orbit, cavernous sinus, petrosal bone, posterior fossa from an point view.

Bioabsorbable plate cranial base reconstruction.

INTRODUCTION During endoscopic anterior skull base surgery, reconstruction options for defects of the sella turcica or anterior cranial base require careful consideration of defect size, shape, location, and need for adjuvant therapy. A variety of techniques are available, ranging from single layer reconstruction to multilayer reconstruction with microvascular tissue transfer. Each method has p...

The cranial anatomy of the neornithischian dinosaur Thescelosaurus neglectus

Though the dinosaur Thescelosaurus neglectus was first described in 1913 and is known from the relatively fossiliferous Lance and Hell Creek formations in the Western Interior Basin of North America, the cranial anatomy of this species remains poorly understood. The only cranial material confidently referred to this species are three fragmentary bones preserved with the paratype, hindering atte...
